Break Every Chain?

As if a CD player lies buried within my head stuck on repeat, this song has been playing over and over in my subconsciousness all morning.
Paul said in Galatians 5:1, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty (freedom) wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” In John 8:36, Jesus’ disciple John says, “If the son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”

As we travel through this world alongside others, fellow Christians will fall into pits of sin cleverly put in their way to ensnare them. The devil is a roaring lion, seeking who he can devour (I Peter 5:8.) He can not strip away their salvation or change their eternal destination, but the consequences from their decisions may last the rest of their lives.

Through the grace extended to each of us by the blood of Jesus Christ, they can break free and shed the chains, if we let them.

Many times, we are the reason our brothers and sisters in Christ can’t fully break free from the bondage of their past. We hold the key to unlock the chains binding them, but we refuse to forget as Christ does.

If God can forgive their sin and separate it “as far as the east is from the west” (Psalms 103:12) then we should do the same.   “If a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual (fellow Christians) restore such an one in the spirit of meekness (humility); considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.” (Galatians 6:1)

So, if another Christian makes a mistake, humbly repents and turns away from the sin, we should willingly restore them, remembering we ourselves could be trapped in a pit created to entrap us as well. “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” (I Corinthians 10:12)

There is power in the name of Jesus, to break every chain,

break every chain, break every chain.
